Thighplasty (Thigh Lift)
General Procedure Information
After significant weight loss, excess skin around the thighs can remain. Patients are often self-conscious about the sagging, loose skin. Unfortunately, there are no exercises, topical lotions/creams, or noninvasive procedures to get rid of noticeably loose, excess skin. A thighplasty, also known as a thigh lift, is designed to remove this excess skin and provide a dramatic change in the appearance and shape of the thighs. This procedure smooths out the skin and contours the thighs to a more aesthetically pleasing, slimmer shape.
About the Surgery
The Procedure There are a variety of techniques and incision patterns that can be performed. Dr. Breister Ghosh will thoroughly discuss each patient’s options during the consultation process. One common method involves an incision in the groin that extends downward towards the inside of the knee. This allows for the removal of excess skin and tightening of the entire length of the thigh. Incisions are always strategically placed to minimize the appearance of scars. If needed, liposuction can be added on to further contour the thighs.
The technique and incision pattern chosen will depend on the patient’s anatomy and goals. Dr. Breister Ghosh will thoroughly discuss each patient’s options during the consultation process.
Procedure Length Approximately 3 hours under general anesthesia.
Surgery Location Accredited, outpatient surgical facility with the support of a board-certified anesthesiologist.
Recovery Drains are placed at the time of the procedure to collect and drain any fluid that may try to accumulate. A compression garment is placed to help resolve swelling. This garment is typically worn for around 6 weeks. Patients should talk with Dr. Breister Ghosh about the physical demands of their job, but should usually plan for around 2-4 weeks off work.
Duration of Results Permanent if weight remains stable.
